The Missouri Real Estate Appraisers Commission is responsible for the examination, licensing and regulation of individuals who engage in real estate appraisal business. The Missouri Real Estate Appraisers Commission holds general meetings to consider and act upon applications for licensure and certification. Also, the Missouri Commission reviews complaints regarding licensees.
Prior to a Missouri real estate appraiser accepting an assignment, he or she should have the knowledge and experience to complete the assignment competently. The Missouri appraiser may also describe the lack of knowledge and/or experience and the steps taken to complete the assignment competently within the report. Also, if the Missouri real estate appraiser discovers during the course of an appraisal assignment that he or she lacks the required knowledge or experience to complete the assignment competently.
Missouri real estate appraisers have the job of serving the public in a fair and honest manner. Also, Missouri real estate appraisers are required to follow the standards of practice contained in the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraiser Practice (USPAP). It is against the law anyone to engage in real estate appraisal activity without first obtaining one of the Missouri real estate appraiser licenses.
The Missouri Real Estate Appraiser Commission consists of 7 members. The Missouri members are appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the senate. The Commission is located in Jefferson City, MO.
- Five members have at least five years of real estate appraiser experience.

There are three classifications of Missouri Real Estate Appraisers.
- Licensed Residential Real Estate Appraiser
- Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser
- Certified General Real Estate Appraiser
2. Licensed Residential Real Estate Appraiser
- Minimum of 150 hours of qualified appraiser educational courses.
- Establish hours gained of appraiser experience over a minimum of 24 months.
- Pass the Missouri Real Estate Appraiser examination.
3. Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser
- May appraise residential one to four units properties without regard to transaction value.
- Minimum of 200 hours of qualified appraiser educational courses.
- Establish at least 2,500 hours gained of appraiser experience over a minimum of 24 months.
- Must have an Associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited institution or 21 semester hours in respective classes.
- Pass the Missouri Real Estate Appraiser Certified examination.
4. Certified General Real Estate Appraiser
- May appraise all types of property.
- Minimum of 300 hours of qualified appraiser educational courses.
- 15 of 300 hours must be from USPAP course.
- Establish at least 3,000 hours gained of appraiser experience over a minimum of 30 months.
- Must have a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution or 30 semester hours in respective courses.
- Pass the Missouri Real Estate Appraiser General examination.
The qualifications for the Missouri Real Estate Appraiser are set by the Appraiser Qualifications Board of The Appraisal Foundation.
