The North Dakota Real Estate Appraiser Qualifications And Ethics Board licenses and certifies real estate appraisers, sets continuing education requirements, and handles all complaints. The Board acts to protect the public interest by enforcing North Dakota appraiser law. Additional North Dakota Board responsibilities include.

  • Determines the type of educational and appraisal experience.
  • Establishes examination specifications for each category of licensed and certified appraiser.
  • Approve and disapprove applications for permits.
    Hold meetings, hearings, and examinations.
  • Adopt rules as per chapter 28-32 required.

The North Dakota Real Estate Appraiser Qualifications And Ethics Board may designate a representative to promote research and conduct studies relative to real estate appraising. Also, a representative of the North Dakota Board may sponsor educational activities and may investigate alleged violations of chapter 43-23.3 (rules of the Board).

North Dakota real estate appraiser serve the public in a fair and honest manner. Also, all North Dakota real estate appraisers follow the standards of practice contained within the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraiser Practice (USPAP).

The North Dakota Real Estate Appraiser Qualifications And Ethics Board consists of five voting members and one non voting member. The term of each North Dakota Board member is five years. The North Dakota real estate appraiser is located in Bismarck, ND.

  • Three are North Dakota real estate appraisers.
  • One is a financial industry representative.
  • One is a public representative.

North Dakota real estate appraisers must have at least a high school diploma or its equivalent. There are four classes of permits for North Dakota Real Estate Appraisers.

  1. Apprentice Real Estate Appraiser
  2. Licensed Real Estate Appraiser
  3. Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser
  4. Certified General Real Estate Appraiser

1. Apprentice Real Estate Appraiser

  • May assist a licensed or a certified North Dakota real estate appraiser in the performance of an appraisal assignment.

2. Licensed Residential Real Estate Appraiser

  • May appraise non complex 1 to 4 residential North Dakota real estate with a transaction value less than $1,000,000.
  • At least 150 hours of qualifying education courses.
  • Must have at least 2,000 hours of experience working as a real estate appraiser at least 24 months.
  • Must pass the North Dakota real estate appraiser examination.

3. Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser

  • May appraise one to four residential real estate without regard to value or complexity.
  • Must have at least 200 hours of qualifying education courses.
  • At least 2,500 hours of experience working as a real estate appraiser at least 24 months.
  • An Associate Degree or higher or 21 semester hours from an accredited institution.
  • Must pass the North Dakota real estate appraiser examination.

4. Certified General Real Estate Appraiser

  • May appraise all types of real estate.
  • Must have at least 300 hours of qualifying education courses.
  • At least 3,000 hours of experience working as a real estate appraiser at least 30 months.
  • Experience must contain non residential real estate work.
  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher or 30 semester hours from an accredited institution.
  • Must pass the North Dakota real estate appraiser examination.

Qualifications for the North Dakota Real Estate Appraiser are set by the Appraiser Qualifications Board of The Appraisal Foundation.

The North Dakota Real Estate Appraiser Board is in compliance with Title XI of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989.
