The Oklahoma Real Estate Appraiser Board was established in 1990 with the enactment of the Oklahoma Certified Real Estate Appraisers Act. Further, the Oklahoma real estate appraiser Board meets the Federal guidelines as per the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act (FIRREA) of 1989. Interested individuals who would like to be licensed as an Oklahoma appraiser must satisfy experience and educational requirements. A minimum amount of appraiser knowledge is required as to pass the Oklahoma appraiser exam.
The Oklahoma real estate appraiser Board is responsible for defining by regulation the education, experience, and testing requirements. Also, the Oklahoma Board.
- Promulgate regulations as to implement the Oklahoma Certified Real Estate Appraisers Act.
- Approves or disapproves Oklahoma appraiser applications.
- Establishes administrative procedures in respect to disciplinary proceedings.
- Issues certificates.
- Performs additional functions as necessary in carrying out the Oklahoma Act.
All Oklahoma real estate appraisers serve the general public in a fair and honest manner. All Oklahoma real estate appraisers follow the standards of practice contained within the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraiser Practice (USPAP).
The Oklahoma Real Estate Appraiser Board consists of seven members, appointed by the governor for five years. The Oklahoma real estate appraiser is located in Oklahoma City, OK.
- Four are Oklahoma real estate appraisers.
- One represents the commercial banking industry.
- One is a lay-person.
- One is from the real estate sales industry.
The State of Oklahoma has 77 counties.

There are four classes of Oklahoma Real Estate Appraisers.
- Oklahoma Real Estate Appraiser Trainee
- Licensed Real Estate Appraiser
- Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser
- Certified General Real Estate Appraiser
1. Oklahoma Real Estate Appraiser Trainee
- Must have 15 of USPAP.
- Does not require experience.
- Must only appraise properties within the authorizes scope of the supervisory appraiser.
2. Licensed Residential Real Estate Appraiser
- Must complete the respective real estate appraiser education requirements.
- Must have at least 2,000 hours of experience working as a real estate appraiser in at least 24 months.
- Must pass the Oklahoma real estate appraiser examination.
3. Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser
- Must complete the respective real estate appraiser education requirements.
- At least 2,500 hours of experience working as a real estate appraiser in at least 24 months.
- Must have an Associate Degree or higher or 21 semester hours from an accredited institution.
- Must pass the Oklahoma real estate appraiser examination.
4. Certified General Real Estate Appraiser
- May appraise all types of real estate.
- Must complete the respective real estate appraiser education requirements.
- At least 3,000 hours of experience working as a real estate appraiser in at least 30 months.
- Experience must contain non residential real estate work.
- Must have a Bachelor's Degree or higher or 30 semester hours from an accredited institution.
- Must pass the Oklahoma real estate appraiser examination.
Qualifications for the Oklahoma Real Estate Appraiser are set by the Appraiser Qualifications Board of The Appraisal Foundation.
All interested individuals who wish to become Oklahoma real estate appraiser must show the following.
- Knowledge if technical terms commonly used in real estate appraising.
- Understand the principals of land economics and the real estate appraisal process.
- Knowledge of theories of depreciation and cost estimating.
- Basic understanding of Oklahoma real estate law.
