The Oregon Real Estate Appraiser Certification & Licensure Board protects the general public by ensuring that all real estate appraiser activities are in compliance with state federal laws and standards. The Oregon real estate appraiser Board was created in respect to Title XI of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989. The Oregon appraiser Board may suspend or revoke certifications or licenses. Also, the Oregon Board can deny the issuance or renewal of a certificate or license. Additional responsibilities include:
If you are interested in being a licensed or certified Oregon real estate appraiser, you must satisfy certain experience and educational requirements (please read below for summary). Also, an examination is required to confirm a minimum level of knowledge of appraiser information. All Oregon real estate appraisers act to serve the general public in a fair and honest manner. Also, Oregon real estate appraisers follow the standards of practice contained within the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraiser Practice (USPAP).
The Oregon real estate appraiser Board is located in Salem, OR. All complaints made to the Oregon Board must be in writing. Also, any person may file a complaint. Additional complaint, investigation, and audit information include.
- The Oregon real estate appraiser Board accepts anonymous complaints.
- The Board will take no action on frivolous complaints.
- The Administrator ensures that each non-frivolous complaint is investigated to determine if violations of Oregon Chapter 674 and/or 161 have occurred.
- The Oregon real estate appraiser Board may also initiate an audit or other types of inquiry or investigation to verify an individuals compliance.

There are three classes of Oregon Real Estate Appraisers.
- Registered Real Estate Appraiser Assistant
- Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser
- Certified General Real Estate Appraiser
1. Registered Real Estate Appraiser Assistant
- Must complete 75 hours of qualifying appraiser education.
- Must attend a four hour Board approved Supervising Appraiser/Appraiser Assistant Training Course.
- No previous experience required.
- Pass the Oregon respective appraiser exam.
2. Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser
- Appraise one to four residential real estate without regard to value or complexity.
- Must complete 200 hours of qualifying appraiser education.
- At least 2,500 hours of experience working as a real estate appraiser in at least 24 months.
- Must have an Associate Degree or higher or 21 semester hours from an accredited institution.
- Pass the Oregon respective appraiser exam.
3. Certified General Real Estate Appraiser
- Appraise all types of real estate.
- Must complete 300 hours of qualifying appraiser education.
- At least 3,000 hours of experience working as a real estate appraiser in at least 30 months.
- Experience must contain 1,500 hours of non residential real estate work.
- A Bachelor's Degree or higher or 30 semester hours from an accredited institution.
- Pass the Oregon respective appraiser exam.

An experience log documenting acceptable appraisal experience is required for all license applications. All work experience credit must confirm with Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice and be verified. Also, please note an applicant must reschedule examinations and request absences directly from the testing agent. Upon notification from the testing center regarding successful completion of the examination, an applicant will receive from the Oregon real estate Board the appropriate information for certification and required fees.
