Under the Washington Certified Real Estate Appraiser Act, the Director of the Department of licensing may approve or deny applications for certification. Reasons for denial or acts which constitute unprofessional conduct for any applicant include the advertising that is false, deceptive or misleading. Additional unprofessional conduct by a Washington real estate appraiser include.

  • Incompetence, negligence, or malpractice that results in harm or damage to another.
  • Failure to cooperate with the disciplinary authority in the course of an investigation, audit, or inspection authorized by law.
  • Interference with an investigation or disciplinary action by willful misrepresentation of fact.
  • Engaged in unlawful Washington real estate appraiser practice.

It is against the law for an individual to act as a Washington real estate appraiser for compensation without having proper licensure or certification. Washington real estate appraisers are of good moral character, honest, and truthful. The Washington Director may investigate actions of certified or licensed appraisers upon receipt of information indicating a violation may have occurred.

The Washington Real Estate Appraiser Commission is composed of seven members, appointed by the governor. The Washington real estate appraiser Commission is located in Olympia, WA.

  • Members of the commission annually elect a chairperson and vice-president to serve for one year.
  • Any vacancy on the Washington real estate appraiser commission is filled by appointment by the governor for the unexpired term.

The State of Washington has 39 counties.

There are four Virginia real estate Appraiser classifications.

  1. Real Estate Appraiser Trainee
  2. Licensed Real Estate Appraiser
  3. Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser
  4. Certified General Real Estate Appraiser

1. Appraiser Trainee

  • Successfully complete 75 hours of approved real estate appraisal courses.
  • No experience requirement.
  • The appraiser trainee must be supervised by a supervising Virginia real estate appraiser.

2. Licensed Real Estate Appraiser

  • Successfully complete 150 hours of approved real estate appraisal courses.
  • At least 2,000 hours of Virginia real estate appraiser experience obtained over a period of not less than 12 months.
  • Pass the Virginia Appraiser examination.

3. Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser

  • May appraise any one to four family residential property.
  • Complete 200 classroom hours of required education from an approved education provider.
  • At least 2,500 hours of acceptable Virginia real estate appraiser experience within a minimum of 24 months.
  • Must have an Associate Degree or higher or 21 semester hours from an accredited institution.
  • Pass the Virginia Residential Appraiser examination.

4. Certified General Real Estate Appraiser

  • May appraise all types of real estate.
  • Complete 300 classroom hours of required education from an approved education provider.
  • At least 3,000 hours of acceptable Virginia real estate appraiser experience within a minimum of 30 months.
  • Must have 1,500 of the 3,000 hours in non-residential work.
  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree or higher or 30 semester hours from an accredited institution.
  • Pass the Virginia General Appraiser examination.

All Virginia real estate appraisers follow the standards of practice contained within the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraiser Practice (USPAP). Also, Virginia real estate appraisers must meet the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) and the Appraisal Standards Board (ASB) of the Appraisal Foundation criteria. As per the Federal Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act of 1989, the Virginia appraiser Board may do all things necessary as to effectively carry out all state and federal appraiser law.
